Jeff Burton wins pole for USG Sheetrock 400

JOLIET, Ill. -- Jeff Burton figured that if he kept qualifying well, eventually he'd win another pole.

He did that Friday, taking the top spot for Sunday's race at Chicagoland Speedway with a lap of 181.647 mph. Earlier this year, Burton won the pole for the season-opening Daytona 500.

Now he hopes the same logic applies to getting back to Victory Lane.

"Qualifying is like racing," Burton said. "If you continue to qualify well, you'll eventually get your poles. Same with racing: If you continue to race well, you'll eventually get your wins."

Brian Vickers qualified second Friday, followed by Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson.

Last year's Chicagoland winner, Dale Earnhardt Jr., will start 25th.

After several disappointing seasons, Burton is experiencing a resurgence at Richard Childress Racing this year. He has 10 top-10 finishes in 17 races and enters Sunday's race seventh in the points.

But Burton still hasn't won a race since 2001. That might be about to change, as Burton believes his No. 31 crew has made him a threat to win again.

"I think we can win Sunday," Burton said. "I think our team has progressed to a point where when we come to the racetrack, I think we have a chance to win. I really do."
I hear Danica Patrick might be joining NASCAR in a year or so.

yeah, i also heard this i think it would be awesome to have a female driver racing in NASCAR and see her do well. Jeff Gordon won on Sunday that was good news and the other good news was he spun kenseth out!
I think danica patrick going to nascar would be good for nascar. A good female driver might bring more fans.

well thats possible...
Jeff Gordon finished 3rd place today staying at 9th in the standings while Tony Stewart gets back in the top 10 in the points with a 7th place finish. I thought it was kinda funny when car #07 wasn't giving Tony Stewart any room so Tony went right in front of him and spun him out and then when #07 spun out he hit Carl Edwards so then coming into the pits Carl Edwards got some revenge and spun Tony Stewart back out, Wow what a day in racing now just waiting for NHRA to come on. Sometimes it seems like after the race a driver is going to end up killing someone one of these days which i hope that doesn't happen maybe that will be Tony Stewart. I like how aggresive his driving is on the track just wish Jeff would get a little more aggresive out their.
yea Jeff is movin up there steadily and he is gettin himself in a safer spot.Tony Stewart is back in well thats kl.Jeff would be more aggressive but he is a nice guy so thats y he isnt.not sayin Tony isnt but Jeff is nicer imo.
