Hit it right on. Why are we focusing on contract extensions for them right now? We can do that in June, and if there isn't enough room under the cap to apply some of the extension to the 2008 cap, then oh well.

You are being short sited. There weren't a lot of good players on the market this year. So should we just WILDLY overpay for FA just because we had a bad year? That's moronic and not in the best interest of the future of the franchise. You can't approach every year like you have to go all out to win that year. The Bears should not overpay for marginal players over giving reasonable extensions to good players they already have. I don't want to be the Jets or Redskins. I am fine with locking guys up longterm and being patient for the right player to come along in other positions.
So we should have passed on the Burner and Ayenbadejo and Faneca? The problem is Angelo does this EVERY SINGLE TIME. I agree that always spending wild on FA is bad, but sometimes you need to make an exception and pay the guy. Say one day, the Bears get a franchise QB. When it comes time to pay him, will the Bears pony up the 100M needed to lock him up?? It really makes you wonder if they would, the way they run things
And what would Turner have done behind our OL? Oh, and he gets hurt a lot despite never having over 100 carries in a season.... man I want to give that guy a lot of money

Or BA.. wow lets give $2mil/yr to a guy who is NEVER EVER going to play LB... that's a way to get good value...

Or paying $8mil/yr for a 31yr old OL who's performance is in decline. The guy is not one of the best OG in the league and that's what he's being paid like. I'll pass.

You want to be contrarian. Go ahead. Have fun with it.

Actually, he is one of the best OG's in the NFL, and one of the best in NFL history. 7-8 Pro Bowls and a ring say it all for Alan.
He is still too old, in two year he is going to turn into Fred Miller except at guard.
